Schuyler Ellers Creates Fashion Costume from Recycled Afghan Blankets

Schuyler Ellers from Nevada City grew up with lot of interest in art, color and theatre. His thought towards the world was entirely different. In short, he was very much into modern art and fashion.

Schuyler completed his education in English at Columbia University, but his love for costume design didn’t make him settle down at any cost. After completing his education, he got an opportunity to teach English in Spain and thus his life took a U-turn.

While being in the teaching profession, Schuyler came across with a group of filmmakers and joined the crew, where he himself took the initiative of designing clothes for the actors.

Hard to believe, but it is true! There was neither any fund nor any help to work on the project, but he himself stepped forward to make something cool out of nothing.

During his stay at Barcelona, Schuyler’s Irish roommates taught him how to knit and he took the lessons very seriously, which helped him a lot during his career as a fashion costume designer.

Knitting was a time-taking job; soon he realized that it is also one of the expensive processes too. Later, he came up with the idea of making costumes out of recycled Afghan blankets, which turned into a great deal.

In a short period of time, Schuyler Ellers was so much into this business that one of his friends even invited him to feature his work in a Los Angeles fashion show, which was really a great achievement for him.

In the year 2010, Ellers presented his work on Etsy, which is an online store to sell hand-crafted goods and he got positive response from the customers. Thus, his company by the name of Lord von Schmitt came into existence.
